Russ Day Jamboree Preview
11:00 AM LCA vs. Campbell Co.
Campbell Co. (20-11) comes in to this matchup with a lot of expectations this season, especially with University of Kentucky baseball signee Aydan Hamilton leading the way with his 19 points per game he’ll get added contributions from Des Davie, and Jake Gross. Lexington Christian has fallen on hard times going 9-23 last season. The Eagles return Tyler Hall who is a player to watch in this match-up but Campbell should roll.
12:15 PM Lafayette vs. Bath Co.
This is the game of the day, Lafayette HC Vince Sanford brings rising sophomore guard DeMarcus Surratt into this matchup with one of the best kept secrets in the state of Kentucky in Zack Otis of Bath Co. No one expects Lafayette to copy last seasons 4-24 again. Last season Otis averaged 21.8 ppg and there’s no reason not to believe he won’t expand on that. Bath Co. will also have one of the states best hoops minds roaming the sidelines in Steve Wright.
1:30 PM Bourbon Christian vs. Berea
It was a good guesture by new Bourbon County HC Derek Robinson to include local program Bourbon Christian Academy. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle a step up in competition. Berea generally struggles within the loaded 11th region.
2:45 PM Henry Clay vs. Boone Co.
The Bourbon County faithful love having former Colonel coach Daniel Brown in the building, and when the Blue Devils aren’t playing the Colonels it almost turns into a homecourt advantage outside of Lexington. Konlin Brown will be Henry Clay’s key cog, and Bourbon County faithful will recognize Cortayvion Smith who played last season at BCHS. Boone Co. will try to improve upon their 14-16 record last season welcoming back Thomas Williams.
4:00 Garrard Co. @ Bourbon Co.
The host Colonels of Bourbon County will have their hands full dealing with Ethan Cooper, the 6’3 do-it-all star for the Golden Lions averaged just over eighteen a game last season. It’ll be interesting to see this very young Bourbon County team develop it’s identity early in former Colonels and Western Kentucky great Derek Robinson tenure.
5:15 PM Scott Co. vs. Cooper
Cooper has a very nice post player in Caleb Brooks who stands at 6’9 and poured in 14.3 ppg last season and 6.7 rpg. However the Scott Co. Cardinal faithful are hungry for success and the duo of Micha Glenn, and JZ Middleton hope to bring them back to their winning ways.
6:30 PM Paris vs. Highlands Latin
This is a game that will tell each team alot about where they are, and where they are headed. Latin competes in the super tough 7th region, arguably the states best region. While Paris competes in a very tough district with the states top team Clark County.
