Russ Day Jamboree Recap

Campbell Co. 52 Lexington Christian 40
Things got started at the Russ Day Jamboree with a chilly start both on the court and in the air, as staff didn’t plan for such a drastic drop in temperatures and many were under blankets inside the gymnasium. Lexington Christian played great team basketball, moving it very well to create opportunities. But University of Kentucky baseball commit Aydan Hamilton who went to the free throw line 11 times knocking down 9 of those tries. Hamilton got 13 points from his teammate Connor Weinel to aid his efforts in the preseason W.
Lafayette 73 Bath Co. 58
Very rarely does the MVP go to the losing teams player but it was only fitting considering Bath Co.’s Zack Otis poured in 46 points. That’s 79% of his teams total, but it wasn’t enough as Jayd Huynh shot 8-12 for 20 points and got 13 points from Ishmael Thomas as the Vince Sanford led Generals of Lafayette look to be taking the right steps. Also what about that Bath Co. student section they had it feeling like March in there.
Bourbon Christian vs. Berea (Score Unavailable)
Bourbon Christian was ready and not only competed but took down Berea and in doing so proves the christian school movement in Kentucky has come a long way athletically outside of the KHSAA.
Henry Clay 59 Boone Co. 51
It was a rough start for Henry Clay and HC Daniel Brown the Blue Devils trailed Boone Co. by double digits deep into the 3rd qtr. Konlin Brown (16 pts, 4-12 FG, 3-10 3FG) had a off day shooting but like shooters do he kept shooting knowing his shot would eventually fall. He got some help from Mason Hawkins who chipped in 14 points but was also on the boards, and played great defensively. A 2024 prospect to keep an eye on out of Boone Co. is Thomas Williams a PG who can get to the rim, and lock down his man on defense.
Scott Co. vs. Cooper (Score Unavailable)
The way Scott Co. began the game many within the gym believed the Cardinals would run Cooper out of the gym. But the Jaguars clawed their way back for a W. You gotta love Cooper HC Tim Sullivan fire on the sideline.
Highlands Latin 48 Paris 43
Game of the day award goes to these two. Malachi Ashford did everything within his power for his Greyhounds to pull out the win with 28 points, but it was the Highlanders who used their defense late to close out the Greyhounds behind 16 points from Isaiah Groce, and 11 points and 6 rebounds for Jed Hamilton.
Garrard Co. 69 Bourbon Co. 38
We said the Colonels would have their hands full with Golden Lions star Ethan Cooper, and the proved to be true. Cooper filled the state sheet with 28 points and 8 rebounds. Braden Fugate pitched in 12 points in the Golden Lions 31 point win over the host Colonels. Bourbon got 11 points in their inaugural event from Todd Dumphord.
