Kentucky High School Girls Basketball Game of the Week:
#22 Rowan Co. @ #3 George Rogers Clark
George Rogers Clark, or Clark Co. whichever you prefer came into this one with a lot of expectations. Back are Briana and Ciara Byars the sister duo who have GRC primed for another 10th region championship. Briana has committed to Cincinnati and on this night which proved more problematic for the Lady Cardinals then they initially thought she finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists showing off her versatility. It was her younger sister Ciara (14 pts, 11 rebs) and Kennedy Stamper (11 pts) who hit big shot after big shot to lead GRC over a inspired Rowan Co. squad led by 30 points from Haven Ford.
When GRC is communicating this team is deadly, when that communication breaks down just like most things in life there was some struggle. There was some rust as the Lady Cards had some nice looks but just couldn’t get their shots to fall.
Rowan Co. was led by Haven Ford who was the best player on the court tonight. Rowan led the game at the halftime break 20-16. Ford showed a impressive crossover and ability to get into the lane and finish. She wishes she could get back some trips at the line where she shot 7-13.
In the games closing minutes, Ford would knock down a 3 to pull her Lady Vikings within two. As GRC was inbounding the ball Ford swooped in for the steal, but couldnt capitalize and the Lady Cardinals iced the game on a pair of free throws to win 50-46 for the Nations Elite #3 team in the state over the #22 team.
