Kara Lawson is rebuilding the Duke’s womens basketball program and she’s doing so around key recruits like 6’0 2023 wing Jadyn Donovan. Donovan chose the Blue Devils over Notre Dame and says “It was a hard decision, at Duke I have the opportunity to rebuild a program, play for Kara Lawson who coached in the NBA, has a gold medal, and has been a sports broadcaster all things I aspire to be.”
Lawson and staff have built a incredible relationship with Donovan of which she went on and on about in stating “We’re pretty close, we’re always joking around and laughing. We have a family atmosphere.” Jadyn mentioned assistant coaches Coach (Tia) Jackson and Coach Karen (Lange). Donovan says “Duke is a little different because they have a couple of graduate players on the team which makes me feel at home.”
Duke fans may be wondering has Jadyn put on her recruiting hat, and yes she has. The high ranking wing says “In the ‘23 class I’m working on Delaney Thomas, and Hannah Hidalgo.” When asked what she is selling the duo on she said “They have the chance to create their own dynasty, create your own story. Great academics, close proximity cause we’re all family oriented. Wanna be a legend?” As for when Jadyn will be back in Durham she says “I have not looked at Duke’s schedule, but I definitely hope to get back down maybe for a Carolina/Duke game. I was there a couple weeks ago for Countdown to Craziness.”
Donovan is set to begin her senior season at Sidwell Friends (DC) which is loaded with talent of which she says “It’s pretty amazing, at first it was hard at first you’re the star but now you’re with a bunch of five stars. We have a lot of great players on one team, but it prepares you for college basketball.”
One of those young ladies is Kendall Dudley a high ranking 2024 wing that Donovan has gelled with nicely and says “I love playing with Kendall, she’s one of the hardest workers I’ve played with. Throughout the day I’ll ask where is Kendall and they’ll say she’s in the gym. She’s a great leader even at a younger age, it’s a honor to play alongside her.”
As for what she hope to accomplish in her senior season, Jadyn says “It’s easy to say a repeat of last year, and easy to say go undefeated. Keep the standard, focus on the little things and we’ll have a repeat of last year. For me as a senior going out with a bang, and national championship again.”
With a target painted on their back, Donovan says she’s looking forward to playing La Jolla Country Day, and Sierra Canyon for the matchup against highly thought of JuJu Watkins. Sidwell Friends season kicks off December 1st against Bishop McNamara.
