Kelly leaves comfy HC confines to be OSU OC

By:Kenneth True
Chip Kelly was leading the UCLA Bruins football program and was a popular name in coaching circles for his innovative offenses. So when Kelly announced he would be leaving his perch atop Bruin Nation and taking the offensive coordinator job at Ohio State it was shocking, especially with the Bruins placement in the Big Ten.
In Columbus, Kelly will have plenty of offensive firepower something he has lacked since his days in Oregon. Kelly and the Buckeyes will turn to Kansas State transfer QB Will Howard, who will be joined in the backfield by Ole Miss transfer RB Quinshon Judkins (1,158 yds 15 TD) and Sr. TreyVeyon Henderson who ran for 926 yds and 11 TD last season.
Where this offense can go from good to great is in the WR room. The Buckeyes welcome back Emeka Egbuka who should be WR1 this season after catching 41 balls last season for 515 yds, and 4 TD. After Egbuka the Buckeyes turn to some promising youth that many analyst described as can’t miss prospects in Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss.
Kelly’s biggest challenge if it proves to be one could be certain spots along the OL. However, with Alabama center transfer Seth McLaughlin that nails down one spot on the OL. Pencil in Donovan Jackson who has loads of promise at one spot in the interior, and Tegra Tshabola or Enokk Vimahi opposite him. The tackle spots look to be San Diego State transfer Josh Simmons and Josh Fryar to lose.
Chip Kelly has all the tools to strike fear back into opponents with his offense, and all the tools to keep this thing rolling for a while in Columbus. In a new age of college football where head coaches leave their perch for coordinator jobs Kelly is set up nicely for a great run at The Ohio State University.
